PESHAWAR, March 4: NWFP Minister for Education, Culture and Information Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani has called for developing the tools and means of communication, especially radio, to improve the country’s image throughout world.
Radio is the most important and effective means of communication, he said, while inaugurating a three-week workshop on “Radio for Peace” at the Area Study Centre of Peshawar on Saturday.
The workshop is being jointly organized by the Media Training and Research Centre (MTRC) of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Peshawar, Voice of Germany, Fredrick Ebert Sifting (FES) and the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation.
The workshop, first of its nature in the country, aims at training professionals for radio and establish a radio community in Pakistan, where majority of the people listen to radio programmes.
The minister expressed concern over the country’s image projected by the foreign media during the US-led attacks on Afghanistan. However., he lauded the efforts of VOG, saying that the Germany’s radio had portrayed Pakistan’s image correctly.
Mr Gilani was of the view that the clash of civilizations could only be minimized by developing the role of media.
