LAHORE, June 12: A duststorm followed by rain here on Tuesday evening broke a four-day spell of oppressive heat.

The 78kph storm, which hit the city around 8:15pm, brought joy to a city reeling under temperatures ranging between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius over the past week.

The Met Office said humidity caused by incursion of moisture from the Arabian Sea lowered temperatures in other cities of Punjab by eight to 10 degrees Celsius.

On the other hand, the Met Office added, humidity raised the human discomfort index manifold. The weather pundits attributed the duststorm to a low pressure area over Balochistan and its trough stretching to NWFP.
