KARACHI: Gadap passes surplus budget

KARACHI, June 12: The Gadap Town’s council approved a surplus budget with an outlay of Rs855.737 million for the financial year 2007-2008 at a meeting here on Tuesday.

Town Nazim Ghulam Murtaza Baloch presented the budget with a surplus of Rs5.687 million and the council unanimously passed it.

The council meeting was presided over by Naib Town Nazim Abdul Sattar Brohi.

The budget document shows the total income at Rs855.737 million, including revenue income, own sources and capital income while the total expenditure stand at Rs850.0503 million showing a surplus of Rs5.687 million.

A total of Rs200 million is earmarked for ongoing development schemes, including roads, bridges and causeways; Rs121.1 million for the Citizen-Community Board; Rs100 million for water supply scheme; Rs106 million for communication Rs51 million for sewerage system and drains; Rs13.5 million for new office building; Rs10 million for street lights and Rs20 million for parks.

Briefing the journalists about the budget, Mr Baloch said that an amount of Rs620 million would be spent on development.

He said that the town council acting on the directives of the Sindh government had approved a one per cent tax on sale and purchase of properties in the jurisdiction of Gadap Town.

He said that the town was likely to generate revenue of one million rupees, which would also be spent on development projects.

He said Rs416.82 million would be collected under the head of Zila Tax while other sources of income are water charges, property tax, share in revenue from transfer of property, tender fees, road-cutting charges and rent of buildings. He said that the city government did not pay Rs320 million to Gadap Town as its share in the head of Octroi Tax.

The estimated expenditures of the town was Rs210 million, he said, adding that Rs93.926 million had been earmarked for the salaries of the staff.

Referring to the development projects, the town nazim said that work on construction of four small dams in the town to store rainwater was going on.

STEPS FOR MONSOON: Jamshed Town Nazim Khalid Mustafa Khan inspected rainwater drains and the precautionary steps taken for coming monsoon rains, adds PPI.

During his surprise visit to storm-water drains on Tuesday, he instructed the officials concerned to ensure smooth flow of water in nullah during the rains to avoid flooding of homes and roads.

He ordered that trash corners should be cleaned daily, otherwise, action would be taken against inspector and sub-inspector of the respective area.

He asked water and sewerage board officials to ensure water supply to Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, the PECHS and adjacent areas.
