Fire engulfs building in Blue Area

ISLAMABAD, June 7: A fire broke out at a six-storey building in Blue Area on Thursday, causing damage to valuables and property, police and the fire department said. However, no loss of life or any serious injuries were reported. Due to the timely rescue works several offices in the building remained safe.

The fire, which erupted at 7.55pm due to short-circuit in travel agency located in the third floor of Razia Sharif Plaza, spread quickly and engulfed the floor.

Thick clouds of smoke bellowing from the building could be seen from a long distance.

The Islamabad city fire brigade, CDA fire brigade and the police were called in for rescue works. Six vehicles of the fire departments along with dozens of fire fighters and heavy contingent of police reached the spot.

The flames were brought under control by the rescue workers after three hours before it spread to adjacent rooms and offices.

The equipment including computers, air-conditioners and files were reduced to ashes.
