PESHAWAR, June 2: The NWFP government will lend additional budgetary support to district governments in case salaries of the public sector employees are increased in the next budget.
This was decided by the Provincial Finance Commission (PFC) at a meeting here on Saturday.
The meeting was presided over by PFC chairman and provincial finance minister Shah Raz Khan. Secretaries of the local government and rural development, planning and development department and finance, and the professional members of the PFC attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed and reviewed various matters pertaining to the commission and approved the additional recommendations to be incorporated in the next budget.
It was decided that in case of the possible increase in salaries, districts would be provided with additional resources while an increase of 25 per cent would be made in the developmental budget of the district governments in the next fiscal year.
The PFC, which determines resources between the province and districts, abolished a condition of allocating 40 per cent of their development funds for the mega projects.
The commission also decided that the approval of development schemes would be made through project committees.
Provision of additional resources for availability of medicines in the Basic Health Units, matching grant for health and road sectors and delegating the management control of colleges were some of other decisions taken in the meeting.
