LAHORE, May 26: A colt Kiss Of Luck and a filly Dil Vil appear to be real genuine chances for the feature event, when a card of six events gets under way during Day/Night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Three-year-old colt Kiss Of Luck swept to victory in the Kasur Plate class IV division II over 1300m on May 13 last. He beat Noor by a big margin of a distance and has been promoted to division one and two combined in the same class. He now faces the filly Dil Vil as the main rival in a field of eight runners barring last-minute withdrawals.
Dil Vil after having won two races consecutively was defeated by Nosheen. She is carrying top weight of nine stones four pounds against Kiss Of Luck's eight stones ten pounds. On classification Dil Vil stands better chance while handicap and timing favours Kiss Of Luck with distance reduced by 100m..
Both are fast runners and have remarkable record of form during the recent meetings. This will be the sixth and last race.
Three-year-old colt Royal Luck, with two back-to-back wins on the trot will be going all out to complete a hat-trick of victories in the supporting and fifth event, the Bahawalpur Plate class IV division II to be gone over 1200 metres.
His close rivals could be Great Murad and Royal Gambler.
Three-year-old filly, Great Memories, who in her debut on the track ran second to experienced filly Poly Cat on May 13 last is set to make amends this time in the fourth race.
This filly from Bedouin Invader out-of-Sadi Sadi, Great Memories will be contesting in the Rohri Plate, a class V division 1, handicap race to be contested over 1100m.
She is expected to leave good memories by her matching performance as she is coming from the leading stable of Khawaja M. Arif. Among her rivals Jung Frau and Cobbler are prominent on form.
Four-year-old colt Munsaf, with two consecutive wins on his bag, will be on the course to make it three in a row in the third race. But his task looks somewhat difficult in the presence of three-year-old colt Willhewish and the bay Puma The Great, two thorns in her way to triplet success.
Sharp Burg, Remember You and Rough And Tough stands out among nine runners in the second race. In his last outing on May 20, Sharp Burg finished third behind Born To Win and Janu With a good rider in the saddle, three-year-old colt Sharp Burg, a progeny of But Shikan out-of-Cisco Magic, stands a good chance to win honours for his owner Fawad Ahmad Cheema, if trainer Alim-ud-Din wishes so. Alim is known as a trickster, when his horse is installed favourite in the betting ring. Rough And Tough and remember You are the other form runners.
Six-year-old gelding Super Master, who finished second behind Ikon on May 16 last, is being fancied in the opener. On form Rana Choice and Shah Pari can pose some challenge to Super Master, if any from nine rivals.
Pedigree wise Araafa and Chinkara are two good colts but not on recent form.
In the selection of winners, one have to go to the best form that the horses have ever shown, as indeed must be with every horse running in a race, if he is to do things thoroughly. On top the horse must be fit enough to do justice. Then come, the trainer and the rider, who matter most. The question arises, has the trainer sent the horse to perform on merit and the engaged rider is aptly doing the same thing?
Owning or backing a horse is quit a different matter. That depends yet again on the full use of the combined skill. Any lapse on any part may not yield fruit.
The first race will be held at 5pm.
