MANSEHRA, May 26: The NWFP government has asked the displaced families living in the Jabba tent village to vacate it before June 4, sources have told Dawn. The sources in the village said the district in-charge of the tent villages and the deputy district coordination officer, Kaniz Sugra, visited the village on Friday and asked the displaced families from different quake-hit areas to vacate the tent village before June 4. After the deadline they would be expelled by force, she said.

It is learnt that families had gathered outside the office of the camp in-charge. Mrs Sugra apprised the families of the government’s decision.

She also announced a relief package for the affected families, including rations for two months, 14 CGI sheets, and free transportation.

Some of the families pointed out that they had nowhere to go as land-grabbers had taken possession of their land after the quake. As many as 70 of the 430 displaced families are still living in the tent village.
