KARACHI, May 22: Both bankers and journalists on Tuesday have been trying to smell arrival of an FBI team in Karachi to probe a banking scandal involving millions of dollars of insider trading, but failed to find a clue.

A number of high government officials in Islamabad were also contacted to find out the location of the team, but nobody was available to speak on the issue.

However, a spokesperson of the US Embassy said: “We have no comments on this issue.”

An FBI team has reportedly landed in Pakistan for further probing the case of insider trading in US committed by Pakistani banker Hafiz Naseem who named Aijaz Rahim of Fayasal Bank as recipient of the secret information in Pakistan.

Chief spokesman of the State Bank Syed Wasimuddin also denied any information regarding the arrival of FBI team in Karachi.

“We have not been contacted by the FBI,” said Wasim. Bankers said if FBI arrived, it would contact the regulating body, the State Bank, first.
