Three TMA Officers arrested

LAHORE, May 20: The Punjab Anti-Corruption Department has arrested three officers of the Pattoki Tehsil Municipal Administration for a fraud of Rs6.4 million in contracts of transfer of property tax and Bakkar Mandi fees.

According to a handout issued here on Sunday, on the instructions of the Anti-Corruption director-general, an inquiry was initiated against TMO Zubair Qadir, tax officer (finance) Abdul Rahman Shami and tax superintendent Abdullah Shaikh on the complaints regarding embezzlement of Rs6.4 million in contracts of collection of Bakar Mandi fees and transfer of property tax during the fiscal year 2005-06.

During the preliminary investigation and upon proving the facts against the accused, the Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested them.

Later on, Zubair Qadir was released on bail by the Lahore ACE special judge. The Anti-Corruption Department submitted an application to the high court for the cancellation of his bail. The court after hearing the view point of the department, issued a notice for the cancellation of the bail.—APP
