DADU, May 19: A long-standing dispute between the Jamali and Kumbhar tribes was settled in a jirga held late on Friday night in Dadu. The dispute, which claimed five lives from both sides, has also led to the incarceration of 50 people while another 100 are absconding.
The jirga was held under the supervision of the Pir of Ranipur, Agha Roshan Shah, and PPP MNA, Rafique Ahmed Jamali. Sardar Datal Khan Jamali, Sardar Naban Khan Lund, Sardar Dur Mohammad Bozdar, Shahnawaz Chandio and Abdul Nabi Jamali were the ameens from both the sides.
Kumbhar tribe representative Akhtar Ali told the jirga that approximately 10 years ago, people of the Jamali tribe shot a teacher, Abdullah Kumbhar, and threw his body in the forest. He said that the dispute started after this murder.
Jamali tribe representative Sheral Jamali stated that with the help of other people, armed men of the Kumbhar tribe attacked the houses of the Jamali tribe and shot two people dead. He said the clash between the tribes had been continuing for 23 years.
Saying that the murders of two Jamali tribesmen – Ladho Khan and Qalandar Bux – and three Kumbhar tribesmen – Abdullah, Sikandar Ali and Khadim Hussain – have been proven, the Pir of Ranipur decided on a fine of Rs. 350,000 per murder. He directed both parties to pay the sum to each other before July 18, and subsequently withdraw their cases against each other. Both the parties have agreed to the decision.
ACCIDENT: Three men and a boy were killed on Saturday when a Hyderabad-bound truck carrying labourers collided with a trailer on the Indus Highway near Sann.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Ghaffar Jatoi, 40, Fatah Mohammad Jatoi, 30, and Pehlat Khan, 40, while the identity of an 11-year-old boy could not be ascertained. The deceased belonged to Khairpur Nathan Shah and three bodies have been sent to the village. The body of the unidentified boy was kept at Sann hospital.
The damaged truck and trailer blocked the Indus Highway for three hours. Later, the Sann police impounded the vehicles and are conducting investigations.
SUICIDE: Three young women and a man committed suicide in different incidents in Sehwan and Dadu talukas on Saturday.
Noor Jehan, 17, committed suicide by taking pesticide in Karampur village, while Sakina Mallah, 23, died by touching a live electricity wire in Baja village, Sehwan taluka.
In Karam Hatar village of Dadu taluka, Reshman committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan because her family refused to let her marry Mashooq Ali. When he received the information about Reshman’s death, Mr Ali also ingested pesticide. He was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he died.
KILLED: Armed men killed a young man over a land dispute in Mirzo Khoso village, Mehar taluka, on Saturday. The killers shot dead Zahid Sohag, 24, and escaped.
Led by the mother of the deceased, Sabhagi Sohag, villagers and residents staged a demonstration and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused men. They blocked the Mehar-Larkana road by placing the body there. SHO Mehar gave assurances that the killers would be arrested soon. On the complaint of Sabhagi Sohag, the Mehar police registered an FIR against Nazeer, Sakhwat, Sher Mohammad, Sojhro, Imdad and Ali Ghar, all of the Khoso caste.
