LAHORE, May 1: A security guard reportedly plundered a jewellery shop in Sanda and took away gold worth Rs5.3 million on Tuesday.

Adil Shahbaz, manager of Gold Jewellers, told Dawn by phone that as soon as he opened his shop on the Main Sanda Road at 9:30am, security guard Shan Gull (hired by him from a private security company) took him inside at gunpoint and put jewellery in a shopping bag.

“Gull confined me in the shop, locked the shutter and managed his escape,” he said.

Adil said his salesman Naeem, who was coming to the shop, saw Shan leaving with another man, identified as Muqadas, on a motorcycle (LRV-8627).

After hearing Adil’s cries from the shop, Naeem broke open the locks.

“We first called 15 police and then tried to contact the officials of Satluj Security Services but they did not attend the call,” Adil said.

The other owners of the shop — Naeem Abbas Rizvi and Aamir Butt — were also informed about the incident.

Later, the motorcycle was traced at the basement parking of Data Ganj Baksh shrine with entry time of 10am.

Office of the security company, owned by Muhammad Afzal and situated opposite the Badami Bagh railway station, was also locked when the police and jewellery shop owners reached there.

Sanda police registered a case against Shan Gull, Muhammad Afzal, Muaqadas and Muhammad Arshad of the security company on the complaint of Adil.

In other cases, two armed motorcyclists snatched a cell phone from Ummar Chaudhry in Sanda while three armed robbers deprived Abdul Ghafoor of his wristwatch, cash and a cell phone in Factory Area.

Two armed motorcycle riders snatched a bike from Rana Javed at Kausar Road, Islampura, while three gun-totting men broke into a shop in Factory Area and looted cash, calling cards, cell phones and a wristwatch worth thousands of rupees.

Three robbers looted Rs 2,500 and a TV set from the house of Riaz Mahmood, a resident of B Block, Nawaz Park, Harbanspura.
