KARACHI, Feb 27: Two persons committed suicide in separate incidents in different parts of the city on Wednesday.
A young man set himself on fire in his house in Cattle Colony.
Police said Amanullah, 23, sprinkled kerosene on his body and set himself on fire.
Later he jumped into an underground water tank and died on the spot.
Police described the victim as dumb and mentally unstable, living alone in his house close to the railway tracks near Cattle Colony in Landhi.
The body was sent to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post mortem examination, the police added.
A housewife committed suicide by setting herself on fire in her house in New Karachi.
Police said Sarwari Begum, 40, set herself on fire after sprinkling kerosene on her body in her house in Sector 5-J, New Karachi.
Police said Sarwari and her second husband, Khalil Ahmed, had developed differences and used to have frequent quarrels. On Wednesday, the woman set herself on fire. The victim had four children from her first marriage, police said.
She was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors said she was dead.
Hospital sources said the victim had suffered 100 per cent burns.
ACCIDENT: Two persons died in a road traffic accident on University Road in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police said a taxi driver and a passenger died on the spot when a speeding truck rammed the taxi at the Safari turning on University Road in the limits of the Mubina Town police.
The taxi (JM-0172) was travelling towards Gulistan-i-Jauhar when the truck (LSA- 5735) hit it.
As a result, taxi driver Mohammad Azeem, 36, and passenger Farzand Ali, 26, died on the spot.
Police claimed to have arrested the driver of the truck identified as Toor Khan and impounded the truck.
Later, the two bodies were shifted to the JPMC for post-mortem examination.
A middle-aged woman died in a road traffic accident in Orangi Extension on Wednesday.
Police said Saleema Bibi, 45, was knocked down by a speeding minibus in Orangi Extension.
The errant driver escaped the spot.
The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
ROBBERIES: A woman was robbed of Rs100,000 by two unknown armed men in F.B. Area on Wednesday.
Police said the victim was returning home after withdrawing the amount from the National Saving Centre. When she reached near her house in Block 20, F.B Area, the two youths riding a motorcycle intercepted her and robbed her at gunpoint.
CARJACKINGS: At least 10 vehicles — 4 cars and 6 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in different parts of the city on Wednesday, police said.
Two cars were hijacked whereas two were stolen by bandits. Three motorcycles were hijacked and three stolen in various parts of the city.
Police on Wednesday claimed to have recovered three cars and two motorcycles.
