Burgan oilfield cuts output

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 25: A leak at an oil-gathering centre in Kuwait’s Burgan oilfield has cut production by 60,000 barrels per day, or two-thirds of its output, a Kuwait Oil Co. (KOC) official said on Monday.

“There was a leak in Burgan oilfield, but it wasn’t major and it was controlled,” the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP.

“It will not affect our total output as production is being compensated” from other centres in the Burgan oilfield, the world’s second largest after Ghawar in Saudi Arabia, he added.

The leak was detected on Thursday night at oil-gathering centre number six in Burgan.

Part of the centre had to be closed down and production was cut from 90,000 bpd to 30,000 bpd, said the official, who was unable to confirm when the centre would come back on line at full capacity.—AFP
