Book urged on Sooriah Badshah

KHAIRPUR, March 20: Renowned scholar, Dr Nabi Bux Baloch, has said that the Hur Movement against the British rulers was successful and independence was achieved with the martyrdom of Pir Sibghatullah Shah Sooriah Badshah.

He was speaking at a ceremony to mark 64th day of Martyrdom of Pir Sibghatullah Shah Sooriah Badshah organised by PML-F district chapter at Kingri house here on Tuesday.

Dr Nabi Bux Baloch in his presidential speech said that some of the Hurs, who participated in Hur movement, were alive and residing in Sanghar district, who are an eye witness to the movement.

He said that statements of living Hurs fighters be recorded which would be beneficial for the documentation of Hur movement.

He said that after establishment of Pakistan till 1952 there was fear regarding publishing material about Hur movement or martyrdom of Sooriah Badshah, though the British rulers had left.

Columnist Arbab Nek Mohammad said that Sooriah Badshah was a supporter of Hindu-Muslim unity and wanted to see strong a subcontinent.

He added that after freedom from British rulers, Jawahar Lal Nehru, the then prime minister of India, tried that Dargah Rashidia be established in Jesalmir State of India and the then Raja of Jesalmir state announced to give 5000 acres of land for construction of the Dargah Rashidia.

Dr Nawaz Ali Shouq said that no subject regarding Sooriah Badshah is included in syllabus in department of Pakistan Studies in any of the universities of Pakistan.

SANGHAR: A seminar was organized by Hur Historical Society at Sibghatullah Shah Degree College on Tuesday to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Sooriah Badshah. The seminar was presided over by vice chancellor Sindh University, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui.

Taj Joyo said that Pir had met Subhash Chandar Bosh. Subhash had visited the Makhi area and taught him to wage a guerilla war against the British. They had met on July 7 and Pir was arrested in August.

The Sindh University Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui said the Pir had always insisted on education of women.

Mr Siddiqui also said that the followers of the great Pir also bring the material documents and record about the Hur movement to help researchers.

HYDERABAD: The 64th death anniversary of great freedom fighter Syed Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi alias Sooriah Badhshah was observed here on Tuesday.

A ceremony was held in front of main entrance of central jail where he was hanged on March 20, 1943 to pay homage to him.
