KARACHI, March 20: Sindh Minister for Local Government Mohammed Hussain has said that Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town enjoys an important position in the city government.
“It is the only town which has allocated 85 per cent of its budget for development as against 70 per cent normally allocated for the purpose,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at the induction ceremony of tractor-trollies and fogging machines in the town's mechanical fleet.
He praised Town Nazim Wasey Jalil and his team for carrying out record development works in a short span and leading the town onto the path of development.
Mohammed Hussain pointed out that at the provincial level as well, fast development works in respect of water, sewerage, bridges, underpass and other works are being carried out and billions of rupees contributed to the national exchequer which was an example worth emulating.
He said that in order to improve the quality of education, training was being imparted to teachers at the district and taluka levels and targets being met at every level.
Speaking at the ceremony, Town Nazim Wasey Jalil said that under the first phase of the devolution programme, seven tractor-trollies were distributed among as many union councils and in the second phase six tractor-trollies were being distributed among the remaining UCs for garbage lifting.
He stated that fogging machines had been procured for the town's 13 union councils at a cost of Rs1.2 million.
He said development works were being executed in all the UCs without any distinction.
Besides, he said, parks had also been laid in the UCs while one big park on 3.5 acres would be completed in April.
According to Wasey Jalil, construction of 350-bed hospital at NIPA had started which would be centrally air-conditioned and have a helipad.—APP
