KARACHI, March 14: The leader of the opposition and councillors in the City Council have criticised the city government’s policy on prices of essential commodities.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Leader of the Opposition Saeed Ghani and Awam Dost councillors Anwar Baloch, Mir Ismail Brohi, Juman Darwan, Majid Baloch, Sheikh Mehbub-ur-Rehman, Yaseen Butt and Mehrunisa Baloch alleged that the prices of most commodities were higher than the market prices and had been fixed on the recommendations of a particular group. They claimed that the price list clearly reflected the anti-people attitude of certain city government officials.
They said they had repeatedly pointed out to the city government that its policies regarding fixing the prices of commodities were not realistic.
The prices of meat, milk and other essential commodities were increased arbitrarily but the city government failed to control the price hike. Similarly, the prices of commodities were also increased during Ramazan, but the city government failed to check the price hike.
They asked the city government to withdraw taxes and bring down the prices of essential commodities. They also demanded action against the officials responsible for creating financial hurdles for people.
