LAHORE, March 12: People facing likely displacement due to the establishment of a Sports City in northern Lahore on Monday held a protest demonstration outside the Press Club.

They chanted slogans against the government for carrying out such a project which would displace 400,000 people.

They threatened to block all the three bridges on the River Ravi that linked the city with upcountry at an hour’s notice if the government did not drop its plan.

Talking to reporters, their representatives MNA Samina Ghurky, Wahga Town Nazim Khalid Ghurky and Syed Gul Nawaz said that they would not surrender their land for the project and would go to any extent in their resistance.

The MNA said that she would also raise the issue in the National Assembly.

Nawaz claimed that even though the Revenue Department had issued notification under section-4 to acquire the land, not a single owner had so far been served the notice.
