LAHORE, Feb 22: Scores of Lahore-based women organizations will observe the international women’s day on March 8 in a befitting manner.

The organizations, including the Working Women Organization (WWO) and the Women Workers Help Line (WWHL), held separate meetings and chalked out the programme to highlight their problems on the women’s day.

The Women Workers Help Line at a meeting presided over by Ms Azra Shad resolved they would fully utilize the day for identifying the issues pertaining to women who constituted 50 per cent of the country’s population.

A seminar will also be held at the Lahore Press Club on March 8 under the aegis of the WWHL to be participated in by leaders of social organizations, trade union leaders and women activists. Speakers will discuss issues such as the incidents of violence against women.

Earlier on March 6, the WWHL will organize a peace mela for women in Mustafaabad in connection with the international women’s day.

The WWO will also hold a workers meetings on March 8 to create awareness among women workers of industrial and commercial units about their rights and privileges. The decision to this effect has been taken at a meeting held under the chair of WWO president Rubeena Jamil.

Meanwhile, All Pakistan Trade Unions Federation will also observe the women’s day on March 8 and organize a women workers meeting at the local Hamdard Centre.
