ISLAMABAD, Feb 21: District Administration Islamabad (DAI) have beefed up security in the federal capital and deployed police commandos at all sensitive places to avoid any untoward incident during Eid holidays, a senior DAI official told Dawn.
The deputy commissioner Islamabad, Tariq Mehmood Khan on Thursday, presided over a meeting of magistrates and senior police officials and directed them to take brisk security measures to counter any acts of terrorism in the federal capital.
He asked the meeting to deploy police commandos equipped with sophisticated weapons and wireless sets at all sensitive places.
He said police personnel in plain clothes with sniffer dogs should be deployed in all the commercial centres to avert criminal and terrorism activities. Police had chalked out a plan to increase police patrolling in sensitive areas.
He said they have also acquired the assistance of private security agencies and hired 25 guards to be deployed at various commercial and public places.
Security has been tightened in the vicinity of all mosques, Imambargahs, airport, exit points and entrance, bus stands and other public places and personnel have been posted to check the activities of suspicious people.
“We have obtained records of all hotels and rest houses in the capital and investigating the records of those who have been residing in these hotels and restaurants for more than a month. Similarly entry registers of these hotels and restaurants are being checked on daily basis for security reasons,” he added.
