PESHAWAR, Feb 21: A traffic police inspector, who begged for justice, told NWFP Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah during a police Darbar that he had been kidnapped and released after paying ransom to some kidnappers in Bara.

In-charge of city traffic police Mohibullah informed the governor that he had been kidnapped by six armed men on Kohat road near the Badhber police station on the night of Nov 14.

He alleged that he had been kidnapped by Dost Mohammad Storikhel, son of Momber Khan Storikhel, who kept him at different places in Bara (Khyber Agency).

“The kidnappers tortured me for about two months and finally released after receiving Rs650,000, a Kalashnikov and a wrist-watch as ransom from my son Kifayatullah and nephew Iftikhar.”

The inspector demanded the governor to pay Rs650,000 from the Police Fund as he had been turned penniless after paying the huge amount.

Rejecting the inspector’s demand, the governor said: “I don’t want to set a precedent as every policemen will claim money after narrating the same story.”

“If a police inspector can be kidnapped which type of security the police can provide to an ordinary man,” he questioned.
