KARACHI, Feb 21: Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) will supply the remaining quantity of about 65,000 tons of wheat to Iraq.
According to TCP official here on Thursday, this consignment will be supplied through two ships on immediate basis and the shipment has to be completed by April 8, 2002.
The sources said that strict quality controls would be adopted to ensure that the wheat should be in accordance with Iraqi specifications to avoid any rejection this time.
He said that Iraqi food authorities have asked TCP to supply remaining quantity of wheat which was rejected in September 2001.
The TCP had concluded a deal with Iraqi Grain Board in February last year, to supply 100,000 tons of wheat.
The shipment of entire quantity of wheat was completed in September, but Iraqi food authorities had allowed the unloading of only one ship with 35,000 tons and rejected two others with 65,000 tons for being not in accordance to their specifications.
The TCP had claimed the supplied wheat was in accordance with the Iraqi specifications and had permissible ratio of foreign material while Iraqi authorities contested that the presence of organic material was higher.
The rejected wheat was sold to a Dubai based flour mills at a higher prices than agreed with Iraq.—APP
