KARACHI, Feb 13: A non-governmental organisation based in Lyari has prosposed an alliance of all community-based organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) operating in the locality to effectively lobby for the solution of area problems.
The proposed alliance comprising representatives of various organisations would work for improving the infrastructure and combating social evils and joblessness.
The idea was floated by the Lyari Rabita Council, an NGO committed to the social uplift of the area people.
According to the chairman of the Lyari Rabita Council, Haji Javed Memon, the five most serious problems faced by inhabitants of Lyari are water shortage, unemployment, disposal of sewerage water, inadequate educational facilities and drug abuse.
The LRC chairman said that these problems could not be tackled by a single organisation alone and if the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community-based organisations (CBOs) continued working separately and competing for the resources the long standing issues of the area would stand unresolved.
