LAHORE, Feb 12: The rained-off final of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Silver League between Islamabad and Multan will be replayed, since a winning team has to be determined, which will be promoted to next year’s Gold League fixture of the event.
A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman said the decision to this effect was taken by the National Cricket Monitoring Committee on Monday.
The final was held at the Gaddafi Stadium from Feb 7-11. But on the last two days of the final, there was no play due to heavy rains in Lahore, denying Islamabad an opportunity to complete their first innings. Islamabad were 212-5, in reply to Multan’s 514-9 declared.
The spokesman added the venue and the dates of the final would be announced later.
He further stated that the current rules for the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Silver League stipulate that the winners of the final would be promoted to the Gold League, irrespective of the points earned in the tournament. However, he said, this system would be reviewed by the committee and the decision taken before the commencement of the 2007-08 season.
The meeting was attended by PCB Director Cricket Operations Saleem Altaf, Shafiq Ahmed and Saqib Irfan.
