ATTOCK, Feb 12: The local police have arrested six persons for allegedly killing six workers of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in an ambush near Badri village on Sanjwal-Attock road on Friday, District Police Officer (DPO) Zafar Iqbal told reporters here on Monday.
SP Investigation Raja Khalil and other senior police officers were also present on the occasion. All six accused were also produced before the media persons. The remaining three accused are still at large and police are conducting raids for their arrest.
The DPO said that five alleged accused namely Umar Khan, Muhammad Imran, Mazhar, Shehzad and Noor Muhammad, residents of Badri village, were arrested in separate operations on Sunday and Monday, while the sixth accused, Sajjad Shah, was already in police custody.
Sajjad Shah was stated to be the mastermind of the incident was brother-in-law of the complainant Abrar Hussain Shah and his three real brothers, Safeer Hussain Shah, Zameer Hussain Shah and Dildar Hussain Shah killed in the ambush.
The accused would be produced before the court of judicial magistrate, Attock, on Tuesday (today) to obtain their physical remand for interrogation. The DPO said that a special investigation team headed by SP Investigation Raja Khalil had been set up under his supervision to complete the investigation process.
The DPO told the media persons that the remaining three accused, including Muhammad Zahir, Amjad and Abid, residents of the same village, were still at large. He expressed the hope that they would be nosed out soon and brought to justice. A special team had been dispatched to the Okara Cantonment for the arrest of accused Muhammad Zahid stated an army man, he said.
The six PPP workers were shot dead by at least 10 armed persons near Tehada village on Sanjwal-Attock road.
Saddar police had registered an FIR on the report of Abrar Hussain Shah in which he nominated Shehzad, Imran, Amjad Khan, Noor Muhammad, Mazhar, Abid, Umar Khan, Muhammad Zahir and Sajjad Shah.
Replying to a question, Zafar Iqbal said that the arrested accused had taken refuge in Akhori and Boota areas of Kala Chita mountains after committing crime.
