GUJRANWALA, Feb 7: The district police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested 237 proclaimed offenders and 286 court fugitives besides 22 members of seven inter-district dacoits’ gangs during a special drive launched against criminals.
Speaking at a meeting in his office, DIG (Operations) Khadim Hussain Bhatti said that the outlaws wanted by police in several cases of dacoity, robbery and other heinous crime were arrested by different raiding parties from their hideouts.
The DIG revealed that the police had also recovered five cars, as many motorcycles, eight mobile phones, cash, jewellery and other valuables, besides four rifles, 16 pistols and revolvers and some 1,000 cartridges from their possession. He pointed out that a huge quantity of narcotics was also seized from 19 drug-traffickers. He said the campaign against the criminals would continue.
Meanwhile, Additional IG and RPO Malik Muhammad Iqbal announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for members of the raiding parties.
KILLED: A Wapda line superintendent was run over by a speeding truck in Wazirabad on Wednesday.
Reports said that Muhammad Siddique was on his way home from his office by his bicycle when the truck hit him. He died on the spot.
