KARACHI, Feb 2: The by-elections for the National Assembly seat, NA-250 (Karachi), and the Sindh Assembly seat, PS-71 (Dadu) will be held as per the schedule on February 10 and there is no move to postpone the polling, according to sources in the election commission.
The sources, referring to the reports appearing in a section of the press about a possible postponement, clarified on Friday that there was no move under consideration to put off the election. An EC official requesting not to be named said neither the government nor any other quarters had approached the commission with a request for the postponement.
He pointed out that all arrangements had been finalised to ensure free, fair and transparent elections and there was no law and order problem anywhere in or around these constituencies that could justify a review of the original poll schedule.
The NA-250 seat had fallen vacant due to the demise of its occupant, Abdul Sattar Afghani of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal. Likewise, PS-17 seat had fallen vacant after the death of its occupant, Ghulam Nabi Shoro of the Pakistan People’s Party.
