LAHORE, Jan 23: A mediocre card of six events awaits race-goers at the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
Four events will be contested over the sprinting distance of 800m while two will be gone over 900m. The first race is scheduled to start at 12.00 noon.
In the fifth and feature event, the Khairpur Plate class five division 1 and 11 combined handicap race, to be gone over 900m, there are eight runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. Of them three look on chance. They are Dream Comes True, Moon Dazzler and Beautiful Baby.
The four-year-old dark-bay filly, Beautiful Baby, who was beaten to second place in her previous outing on Jan 17 last should make amends and win the race.
Her close rivals could be the dark-bay mare Dream Comes True and chestnut five-year-old, Moon Dazzler. All three are speedy sprinters. Blue Fire, Armida and Al Murad are the pick of ten contestants drawn for the fourth race, a class five division 11 handicap race over 900m. The bay Al Murad is a fast horse but very unreliable at the start. Thus Blue Fire and Armida are left to fight for the spoils.
Rana Choice, Mama Mia and Bad-e-Nasim attract attention in the third race but no one is a consistent performer. So it's anybody’s guess as to the possible winner.
High Hope beaten to second place in previous outing Wednesday Last should make amends this time and win the second race. The rest should fight for the second place.
The opener has eleven contestants, barring last-minute withdrawals. Sir Ivanhoe, Janu, Savera and Dam Dama Dam look good to fight for the top honours.
Seven-year-old dark-bay mare Mosaic should have the better of her six rivals in the last race comprising Lahore Race Club Riding School horses. Goldie and Gypsy should fight for the place.
