LAHORE, Jan 21: The Senate Standing Committee on Sports will grill Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) officials on Monday over the poor performance of Pakistan in the 15th Asian Games held in Doha, Qatar from Dec 1 to 15.
A powerful POA delegation led by POA president Arif Hasan, will answer different questions related to the performance and validity of Hero Card scheme.
It has been reliably learnt that top government and services's officers, representing different national sports federations have been included in the POA's delegation to defend the poor performance.
Pakistan Volleyball Federation chairman Chaudhary Mohammad Yaqoob, a high ranking police officer, Pakistan Gymnastic Federation (PGF) president Khawaja Farooq Saeed, a senior official in the income tax with chef-de-mission Rashid Kaleem of Pakistan Air Force are likely to attend the meeting as POA's representatives. Pakistan could hardly win four medals, one silver and three bronze, as against 13 different captured in the last edition of the Asian Games held at Busan, South Korea.
The poor performance at Doha was suprising, since the government had provided sufficient funds as compared to the Busan's games. Around Rs60 to 70 million were spent on the preparation of the 204-member contingent.
