CALIFORNIA: Hewlett-Packard heir Walter Hewlett, waging all-out war against a planned merger of HP and Compaq, offered Tuesday an alternative plan to boost value and profits.

The plan calls for investment to be concentrated in the company’s “crown jewels”, the imaging and printing business, while focussing on profitability rather than scale in personal computers. “Investors have a clear choice,” Hewlett said.—AFP
