QUETTA, Jan 20: Declaring the city of Quetta as ‘most sensitive’, the provincial government has decided to place it under high security during the first 10 days of Muharram-ul-Haram. The Frontier Corps has been assigned the task of maintaining law and order in the city.

A high-level meeting, presided over by Provincial Home Minister Mir Shoaib Nausherwani here on Saturday, reviewed the law and order situation in view of Muharram.

IGP Tariq Masood Khosa, Home Secretary Tariq Ayub, senior police officers, heads of other law-enforcement agencies were among those who attended the meeting.

The meeting decided that special security measures would be in place right through the first 10 days of the month. The Frontier Corps would be responsible for maintaining law and order and hold flag march in the city daily.

Secretary Home Tariq Ayub informed the meeting that all concerned institutions and officials had been directed to remain alert, especially between the 7th and 10th of the month in Quetta and other parts of the province.

IGP Khosa briefed the meeting about the arrangements made by police for the protection of Muharram processions that would arrive in Quetta from surrounding areas.

He said police were capable of coping with any emergency. All district police officers had been directed to keep a vigilant eye on any suspicious activity in their respective areas and take strict action against those trying to disturb the law and order, he added.

Home Minister Nausherwani said the help of other law-enforcement agencies would be sought, if needed.
