GUJRANWALA, Jan 16: Participants at a police inspector’s marriage blocked GT Road for hours on Tuesday as some guests displayed fireworks and resorted to aerial firing, violating the ban.

Reports said the marriage procession of organised crime in-charge inspector Imran Abbas reached the city from Hafizabad in a caravan of about 1,500 vehicles. Some participants resorted to aerial firing and displayed fireworks which continued for hours on GT Road. As a result of which traffic remained suspended, causing a great deal of inconvenience to passengers.

It was learnt that some citizens informed city police officer (CPO) Khadim Husain Bhatti who appointed Khiali Shahpur Town SP Raja Hasan Akhtar as an inquiry officer.

Mr Akhtar visited the spot along with the Saddar DSP and recorded statements of Model town supervisory police officer Fiaz Ranja and SHOs of Sabzi Mandi, Satellite town, Kotwali, Baghbanpura, civil line and manager of the respective hotel.

He confirmed in his report submitted to the CPO that the number of marriage participants was about 2,500 with 1,500 vehicles. The report said friends of the groom had displayed fireworks and resorted to aerial firing.
