KARACHI, Jan 15: “The city government is not responsible for any development work in private residential societies, but in order to facilitate the people, the City District Government Karachi has completed development projects worth Rs25 million in Jaffer Tayyar Society as well as the road carpeting venture around the Imambargah within the area,” declared the City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal while chairing a meeting of the Ulema held at his secretariat in connection with the forthcoming month of Muharram.
He has also claimed that the CDGK has managed to resolve the 30-year old water and sewerage problem in Jaffer Tayyar Society because of the co-operation extended by the town administrations, traffic police and district police.
Briefing the attendants regarding the special arrangements made for the approaching month of Muharram, he said the city government will also be setting up its emergency center during the 10-days of Muharram where people would be able to lodge their complaints on the toll-free number while town administrations will also establish emergency centers in their respective areas.
The Nazim further asserted that work is continuing on the five routes around Ancholi Block 20 F.B. Area and three of them have been completed and the remaining two would be finished within a couple of days. He added that the carpeting on Nishtar Road has been completed after a lapse of several years, assuring at the same time that the repair work on the leading roads of Imambargah adjacent to Abul Hassan Ispahani Road and Abbas Town will also be done on a priority basis.
The City Nazim, who had called the meeting to resolve the potential problems that may arise in the month of Muharram, outlined that the Standard Operations Procedure (S.O.P) put to work during Eid-ul-Azha would be followed in the 10 days of Muharram to maintain maximum cleanliness and other facilities.
The city government as well as town administrations will introduce toll free numbers in their emergency centers, with the town administrations instructed to resolve minor problems at their own discretion.
According to the Nazim, the city government has already installed streetlights on all major roads including M.A. Jinnah Road and its adjacent areas, Nishtar Road, University Road, Karsaz to Site corridor and Dak Khana to Pak Colony.
“Due to the ‘anticipatory measures’ being undertaken, the city government has not been taking any other special development work during Muharram,” he remarked.
The Nazim has also given an assurance that the problems identified by the representatives of different procession managements would be resolved on priority basis. The religious scholars have appreciated the efforts taken by the city Nazim.
