ABBOTTABAD, Jan 12: Residents of three villages in surroundings of the Pakistan Military Academy Kakul have called upon the army authorities to reopen the Kakul road for civilians by Jan 20.

The movement of residents of Kakul, Nawansher and Mir Pur villages was prohibited for security reasons.

In this connection, a jirga was held at the main Hujra of Kakul village on Friday which passed three resolutions unanimously.

The resolutions demanded that the century-old road should be reopened and compensation of lands acquired from the villagers for the academy should be paid according to the current market price.

They said that in future no additional land would be given for the extension of the academy.

The elders announced holding of another jirga on Jan 17, to chalk out the final line of action.

They said that the closure of the road had been causing inconvenience to villagers and even the army personnel blocked the movement of women and students.

MPA Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani assured the villagers that he would take up the matter with the authorities concerned.

Abbottabad Traders Federation president Saleem Khan Jadoon said that a strike would be observed in the city to express solidarity with the affected inhabitants.
