LONDON, Jan 12: The dollar jumped to near seven-week highs against the euro on Friday on news that US retail sales in December were stronger than had been foreseen, suggesting a cut in US interest rates might come later rather than sooner. The single European currency at one point in the day fell to $1.2868, its lowest reading since November 22, before clawing back some lost ground as the dollar sustained a bout of profit-taking ahead of the week end.—AFP
