CHINIOT, Feb 18: Two persons were killed by timber mafia for barring them from cutting wood in government forests here on Monday.
Saifullah and Muhammad Tayyeb of Chak 190-JB, Bhowana Town, forbade three persons from cutting trees. After exchanging harsh words, armed accomplices of the timber mafia opened fire on them, killing both of them instantly.
A case has been registered against the accused.
It may be mentioned that illegal felling of trees in Chiniot forests is in full swing allegedly with the connivance of local forest employees.
SEMINAR: A seminar on throat diseases was held here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Farooq Ahmed of the Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad, said that major causes of throat diseases were smoking, wine, drinks, chilies and substandard oily products.
EXAMINATIONS: The annual examinations of class 5 will be held in the district on March 6, 7 and 8.
At least 8,000 students will appear from Chiniot tehsil.
