KARACHI, Jan 7: Many nationalist and national political parties of Sindh have extended their support to the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum’s call for a shutter-down on Wednesday (January 10) and ‘black day’ across Sindh against the government’s plan to develop two islands off Karachi into the mega project of ‘Diamond City’.

Representatives of various national and nationalist parties pledged their support at their joint meeting held in Ibrahim Haideri, a fishermen village in Bin Qasim Town, on Saturday.

The meeting slammed the government for paying no heed to the hue and cry being raised by fishermen community over the sellout of their ancestral lands on the twin islands to a foreign firm for the mega project.

Participants of the meeting decided to launch a mass mobilisation campaign “to expose the sinister designs behind this project, and urged all segments of society to respond positively to the call for province-wide strike.

Presided over by PFF chief Mohammad Ali Shah, the meeting was attended by Salim Zia of PML-N, Zubair Khan of PTI, Yusuf Mustikhan of NWP, Abdul Khaliq Junejo of JSM, Liaquat Kazmi of SNP, besides Qamar Bhatti, Elahi Bikak, Dilshad Bhutto and others.

The all-parties meeting also decided to hold a walk on January 20 in coastal areas as a mark of solidarity with the fishermen community.
