KARACHI, Feb 18: Twenty-eight vehicles — 11 cars and 17 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, the police said.

Two cars were hijacked. Nine others were stolen.

Eight motorcycles were hijacked. Nine others were stolen.

SHOT DEAD: Unidentified assailants shot a man to death and injured his companion in Baldia Town on late Sunday night.

The police said that Pervaiz, aged 38, and his companion, Javed, aged 32, were on their way in a car, when unidentified assailants intercepted their vehicle in Rasheedabad, Baldia Town, and opened fire at them. Pervaiz and Javed were wounded in the attack.

They were rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced Pervaiz dead on arrival. Javed was admitted to the hospital.

ROBBERIES: Five robberies were committed in the city on Monday, the police said.

The police claimed to have arrested four armed men after an encounter with bandits in Gulshan-i-Sikandar when they were looting passengers of a minibus, in the police limits of Jackson.

When the minibus reached Gulshan-i-Sikandar, four armed men, who were also travelling on the minibus, asked the driver to stop the bus and looted passengers. No one was injured. As they were busy in looting the bus passengers, a police party, after a tip-off, raided the locality. A shootout followed during which four suspects were arrested.

They were identified as Abdullah, Shaha Mian, Habib Khan and Sultan.

Bandits entered the house of Hanif in Korangi and looted gold jewellery.

Nasir of Gulberg was robbed in a similar way by a gang of bandits.

Robbers broke into two houses at other places and robbed the occupants of the houses of gold jewellery and cash at gunpoint.

ROAD ACCIDENT: A young man died in a road accident on Sharea Faisal on Monday.

The police said that the unidentified young man was travelling on a bicycle when a passenger coach (JE-3379) knocked him down near Jason Trade Centre on Sharea Faisal.

He was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Later on, the body was sent to the Edhi’s morgue where it had been kept for identification, the police said.
