KARACHI, Dec 30: The volume of bilateral trade between Korea and Pakistan has amounted to $843 million in the first 10 months of the current calendar year.

This was stated by Consul General of the Republic of Korea, Sukchul Chang while talking to senior journalists here on Saturday. He said that last year the bilateral trade between the two countries had topped $1 billion.

From January to October this year the trade volume between the two countries amounted to $843 million. Of these, exports from Korea to Pakistan were $550 million whereas imports from Pakistan were $293 million.

The consul general pointed out that in 2006 as many as 15 Pakistani delegations visited Korea whereas five Korean delegations came to Pakistan.

He said Korea has invested more than $21 million in the industrial, construction and transport sectors of Pakistan, including the joint ventures.

Mr. Chang was of the view that there are vast opportunities of mutual business cooperation in auto parts assembling, motorways, IT, solid waste management, master plan development, drainage system and traffic control management.

The Korean diplomat lauded the ongoing structural reforms in Pakistan aimed at deregulation, liberalisation and privatisation. He also appreciated the steps taken by the government of Pakistan to fight terrorism and extremism.—APP
