ISLAMABAD, Dec 20: A man reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the Shehzad Town area on Wednesday, while the police shifted the body to Pims to ascertain the actual cause of the death.

The police believed that it could be either a suicide or an accident as the deceased might have triggered the pistol while cleaning it. However, the police had not recovered the weapon till filing of this report. Mukhtar Ahmad, 27, a resident of Pindorian in the Shehzad Town area, was brought to the District Headquarters Hospital in Rawalpindi by his family members with a bullet injury to his abdomen. But the victim died before receiving any medical treatment.

After knowing about the incident, the Shehzad Town police rushed to the hospital. However, they ran into a traffic blockade and could not record the statement of the injured as he had died when the police reached the hospital.

The family members of the deceased told the police that they were sitting in the veranda of the house when they heard a gunshot and rushed inside the house and found Mr Ahmad in a pool of blood. They said it was a suicide incident and requested the police to hand over the body to them, as they were not willing to conduct an autopsy.
