KARACHI: Water shortage in many areas

KARACHI, Feb 17: Different parts of the city on Sunday either went without water or received scanty supply in the wake of short supply from Dhabeji pumping station on Saturday.

Pumping of water to the city from eight out of the 13 pumps of Dhabeji pumping station had remained suspended from 9.30am to 6.30pm on Saturday as the KESC had shut the supply to the station for carrying out maintenance work.

On Saturday there was a short supply of about 50mgd of water as the city had received supply only from five diesel pumps of the Dhabeji station while the remaining eight had been idle for seven hours.

Though the KESC had intimated in advance about the power shutdown at Dhabeji station, the KWSB officials did not make any announcement and as such residents of those localities which had an impact of the short supply of water could not store water for Sunday.

Meanwhile, KWSB sources said the city’s overall water supply position would be normalized by Monday.

Complaints of acute water shortage were received from different sectors of North Karachi.

Residents of North Karachi’s Sector 5-C-1 and 5-C-3 said they had been getting the supply with low pressure and for a shorter duration.

They demanded of the City Nazim to direct the concerned officials to immediately make arrangements for ensuring smooth supply to their localities as warm weather was approaching fast.
