GUJRANWALA, Nov 20: The DAP dealers went on shutter down strike against registration of cases on the charge of selling the commodity at higher than fixed rates in Alipur Chattha and Wazirabad on Monday.
The Punjab government had fixed Rs850 for a DAP bag but the dealers were selling it for Rs925 to Rs950 per bag.
The district administration took serious notice of the situation and ordered magistrates and police to arrest the dealers for overcharging.
Meanwhile, the dealers said that they were purchasing a DAP bag for Rs912 so how they could sell it for Rs850. They pledged at a meeting that their strike would continue till withdrawal of cases registered against their colleagues.
The farmers also protested against DAP and pesticides dealers and expressed the fear that wheat and fodders crops would be damaged if DAP was not supplied immediately.
RACHNA COLLEGE: The students of Rachna College of Technology, Wazirabad, continued on Monday boycott of their classes demanding recognition of their degrees like engineering universities’ and pledged that their strike would be continued till the acceptance of their demand.
DCO Manzar Hayat and DPO Mian Asif visited the college and negotiated with the students but they did not agree to end their protest. They demanded that the government should announce affiliation of the college with the Pakistan Engineering Council and recognize their degrees, otherwise their strike would continue.
It is learnt that the district administration informed the Punjab government and governor about the situation. The principal warned the students that the college would be locked if they did not end boycott of classes. However, tense situation between the college administration and students was continuing.
MATRIC EXAMS: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education announced the schedule of submitting admission forms for matriculation annual examinations, 2007, and intermediate part-I and -II annual examinations, 2007, on Monday.
Last date for submitting admission forms for matric examination is December 18 for regular and December 11 for private candidates, while December 27 with double fee and March 5 with triple fee, respectively.
The examination would start on April 7 while results would be announced on August 1.
The last date for submitting admission forms for intermediate part-I and -II annual examinations is January 25 for regular and January 20 for private candidates. The board has fixed February 6 and March 26 for submission of forms with double and triple fee respectively. The examinations would begin on April 29 while the result would be announced on August 15.
PHYSICAL REMAND: The anti-terrorism court No 1 on Monday granted seven-day physical remand of those five accused, who were involved in kidnapping a trader for ransom.
Reports said Tariq Mahmood, Muhammad Khalid, Muhammad Adnan, Alamgir and Jamshed had kidnapped trader Muhammad Younis from Sabzi Mandi area and received Rs5 million as ransom from the heirs for his release.
WATER THEFT: Police registered cases against 57 landlords on the charge of canal water theft after raids with the irrigation staff in remote areas on Monday.
The irrigation and police team raided in Tetley, Naushera Virkan, Wahando and Kamoki and caught landlords stealing water.
The raiding party recovered water pipes and other equipments.
