KARACHI, Oct 18: The strike call announced by the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, which was backed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, failed to acheive its desired results in the city on Thursday.
The province-wide strike call was given by the JSQM in protest against the arrest of its chairman, Bashir Qureshi, and second-in-command, Dr Niaz Kalani.
In Karachi all the main commercial centres remained operational while electronics, whole sale, grain, retail, timber markets and other bazaars in Saddar, Liaqatabad, Empress Market and other places were also opened.
Traffic flow on almost all the major roads was normal and usual activities and attendance in government and private offices were also observed. Attendance in schools also remained normal.
A few areas located in the outskirts of the city including Pipri, Ghagar Phattak, Gulshan-i-Hadeed, Memon Goth and some rural areas of Gadap town remained closed, where normal flow of traffic and trading activities were also disturbed.—PPI
