KARACHI, Oct 12: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal feared that the citizens could endure traffic jams during the last 10 days of Ramazan, the peak season for Eid shopping.
He, however, vowed to make all-out efforts to keep the situation in control.
The city nazim was speaking after an Iftar dinner hosted by City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil in the honour of members of the City Council at the Old KMC building on Thursday.
“In a city where 500 new vehicles come on roads everyday and having only 15 to 20 major shopping areas for 15 million people, you can expect traffic mess owing to haphazard parking”, he observed.
The nazim said that parking points had already been marked in major shopping markets with the cooperation of the concerned town administrations to cope up with expected traffic jams.
Regarding the issue of overcharging, he said that the basic reason behind the surge in the prices of essential commodities was the big gap between the demand and supply, which was artificially created by suppliers.
The nazim was of the opinion that dengue fever always hit the city during this season and added that the prevalence rate of such cases was lower than the previous years and situation was under control in hospitals. He vowed to continue fumigation campaign until the situation become normal.
The naib nazim, Nasreen Jalil, on the occasion, said that the city government was planning to establish four power plants with a total capacity of 240MW capacity.—PPI
