SUKKUR, Oct 2: An inquiry committee headed by the Executive District Officer Health, Sukkur, has submitted a report to the Sindh health ministry regarding purchase of sub-standard medicines by the health authorities of Khairpur.

Sources said the Additional Secretary Health Sindh, Dr (Capt) Majid, had inspected many godowns of the health department in Khairpur, a few days ago, during which gross irregularities were detected including purchase of medicines most of which were sub-standard and of inferior quality. On this the additional secretary health formed a three-member inquiry committee headed by the EDO Health Sukkur, Dr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman, to thoroughly look into the matter and submit a detailed report.

The committee during its proceeding detected that for the year 2006-2007 the EDO Health, Khairpur, Shahabuddin Shaikh purchased sub-standard and low quality medicines worth Rs 3.5 million from the local companies in the name of multi-national companies while paying 120 to 130 per cent more price.

However, the inquiry committee has submitted its report to the Sindh health ministry for further action.

CHILD DIES: A child was killed and two others injured when armed men opened fire on a house, in the jurisdiction of Salehpat police station near Sukkur late on Sunday night. According to reports, armed men entered into the village and opened fire on the houses of Manjhoo Khan Bugti and Bandhi Khan Bugti situated on the land of Syed Jawed Shah.

As a result, Manjhoo Khan, Bandhi Khan and Abdul Sattar got injuries, while the attackers fled.

Later, the injured were shifted to civil hospital, Sukkur, where one of them, Abdul Sattar died.

Sher Baig Bugti brother of Manjhoo Khan registered an FIR No: 88/2006 against four people.
