$102,000 shot

PERTH, Feb 13: Western Australian batsman Michael Hussey Wednesday night unfurled what could be the most lucrative single stroke in the history of cricket.

Hussey won a cool 200,000 Australian dollars (102,000 US) for one shot which thudded into a sponsor’s sign in a day-night inter-state match against New South Wales.

The left-hander netted one-fifth of a million Australian dollars for a thunderous sweep shot which struck the metal sign at square leg off the bowling of Dominic Thornely.

Hussey will not receive all the booty, provided by an insurance company, himself. It was understood the team had agreed before the game that any player hitting the target would receive 40 percent of the bounty, with the rest being shared among team-mates.—AFP
