KARACHI, Feb 13: Water supply to several parts of Orangi and Qasba was badly affected during the last two days following the bursting of a 33-inch dia trunk main burst.
Sources in the KWSB said supply to both the sprawling townships was affected because a 33-inch dia trunk main of Hub, through which these localities were supplied water from 10am to 10pm, burst around 5am on Tuesday.
Residents of the townships said most of the localities either went completely dry or received little supply on Tuesday and Wednesday.
However, the officials concerned of the KWSB were unavailable despite repeated attempts to contact them by phone to know the actual cause of water shortage in the townships.
SHORTAGE: Water supply to a number of localities in the former district Central could not be restored till Wednesday due to delay in repairing the Liaquatabad’s 24-inch dia pipeline which had been leaking since Thursday last.
The affected localities include parts of Liaquatabad, Rukunuddin Flats, Golimar, Pak Colony, Moosa Colony, Nazimabad and adjoining areas.
Residents said they had been without water for the past six days because the KWSB officials had not been able to plug the leaking pipeline. They had been compelled to buy expensive tankers and drink unhygienic sub-soil water.
They said, on the one hand, their localities were not being supplied water and, on the other, a considerable quantity of water had been lying stagnant on a street in Sikandarabad.
CONTAMINATED: Residents of at least 25 houses in Liaquatabad’s C-One Area have been receiving contaminated water for the last 15 days.
They complained that although a number of houses, starting from House No 45/10-A, had been supplied stinking water for the last fortnight, officials of the KWSB were not taking any interest in rectifying the fault responsible for contaminated water.
A resident remarked that “since we are continuously being supplied with contaminated water, we have no choice but to either buy tankers at exorbitant rates or to drink sub-soil unhygienic water.”
