PESHAWAR, Feb 13: A two-day workshop on the Lachi Poverty Reduction Project concluded here on Tuesday, a handout said.

The scheme was prepared in the light of recommendations of an independent South Asian Commission on Poverty Alleviation, and organized by the United Nations Development Programme.

The workshop was presided over by National Project Coordinator Lachi, Kohat District, Mohammad Azam Khan. UN representative Chaudhry Inayatullah, Munawar Humayun of the Sarhad Rural Support Programme and officials of agriculture, livestock and forest departments and Peshawar Agriculture University attended the workshop.

The commission on poverty alleviation was formed in the Saarc Summit of 1991.

The project is aimed at bringing sustainable improvements in the livelihood of over one 100,000 people living in the area, and promoting a model for rural poverty reduction in other parts of Pakistan.

Participants of the workshop gave suggestions about the irrigation about land and other water relating techniques, livestock management, village based poultry breeding programme, the introduction of scientific grazing system and bio-diversity.
