PESHAWAR, Sept 13: A number of student organisations have threatened to stage a sit-in in front of the Governor’s House if a schoolboy kidnapped from Bara is not found within four days.

Provincial People’s Students’ Federation chief Ijaz Khan Yousafzai and representatives of Afridi, Marwat, Waziristan and Buner Students’ Federations said at a press conference here on Wednesday that Suhail, a student of class seven, had been kidnapped from Bara on May 19 but nothing had been done for his recovery.

If kidnapping of schoolchildren continued, parents would stop sending their children to schools, they said.

They said protection of students was the prime responsibility of the government.

“If the political administration cannot protect the students then it should close the educational institutions in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas or resign,” they said.

They said the boy might have been kidnapped to pressure on the government to accepted the demands of the criminals. “We think the political agent is aware of the kidnappers but he has not taken any step for the recovery of the teenager,” they alleged.

PSF leader Ijaz Khan said students of the Peshawar University would observe a sit-in if the kidnapped boy was not recovered within four days.

He said groups of kidnappers had particularly targeted students and teachers in the tribal areas and a teacher was also kidnapped from Bara earlier.

“It seems that the kidnappers want to shut down the educational institutions in the tribal areas. However, students of the Peshawar University will play their role for protection of educational institutions,” he added.—PPI
