PESHAWAR, Aug 20: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that the opposition wants to convey through the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz that he is not competent to continue to serve on the post.

“It is not necessary that the no-confidence motion will succeed in the National Assembly, but at least we have conveyed to Mr Aziz that he is not the right person to remain as prime minister,” he said at an anti-Musharraf rally organised by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal at Jinnah Park on Sunday.

Leaders of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf also spoke at the rally.

Maulana Fazl said the government had tried to create rift in the opposition by proposing to move the controversial bill regarding Hudood laws but it had failed in the attempt.

He said the proposed amendments to the Hudood laws had nothing to do with the rights of women and the government wanted to please its ‘masters’.

He claimed that PML president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was against the bill and the drive had been orchestrated by the General Headquarters.

He said Chaudhry Shujaat had contacted him on Saturday requesting to form a committee of ulema from the MMA and the PML to discuss the draft of the bill. He said he had asked the PML leader to first send the draft of the bill.

He said that the MMA government in the NWFP would soon get the Hasba bill passed from the provincial assembly.

Jamaat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad said the MMA, the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy and other political forces were united to oust the unconstitutional government of President Pervez Musharraf and bar the military from politics forever.
