GUJRANWALA, Aug 20: The Ghakkhar town is littered with garbage owing to complete strike by sanitary workers while the tehsil municipal administration has reportedly failed to resolve the issue despite a lapse of a week.

Reports said sanitary workers had gone on strike on Sunday last to protest against the TMA for not regularising them and humiliation by a sanitary inspector over minor issues.

They had staged a sit-in in the compound of Ghakkhar municipality on Sunday last and alleged that the sanitary inspector and other officials used to deduct their salaries following showing them absent form duty. They were demanding regularisation of all senior sanitary workers, increase in allowance and transfer of the inspector.

When contacted, sanitary inspector Dr Nisar Ahmad said workers were blackmailing him without any justification as he had tried to discipline them.

Meanwhile, citizens have urged district nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha to resolve the issue immediately.
